Sheryl Kay Ames

Sheryl Kay Ames (Schroeder), age 77, passed away peacefully on January 31 in Joplin, Missouri. Sheryl was born in Carthage, MO and was a longtime resident of Blue Springs, Missouri, where she made her home for over 40 years and built a life centered on family, service, and unconditional love. She was the true matriarch of her family—a steady presence, a safe place, and a loving embrace not only for her loved ones, but for anyone who crossed her path. Sheryl never met a stranger. If you were hungry, you were fed; if you needed comfort, she gave it. Her home was always open, and there was almost always a hot meal waiting. Sheryl spent many years working as a cook, a role that perfectly matched her nurturing spirit, and later devoted herself to caring for others as an adult caretaker, offering patience, dignity, and compassion to those who needed it most. She had a deep love for antiques, especially her cherished collection of cookie jars, each one holding a story—much like she did. She is lovingly survived by her three children, Becky Primeau, Chris ( Kathleen)Boyd, and Louise Tatum; her sisters, Kathy (Virgil) DeGonia and Charlotte ( Micheal) Kelly ; and her grandchildren, Shane Garrison, Felicia Tatum, Erykah Garrison, Cody (Heather) Broadway, Christopher (Rachel) Broadway, Chelsea (Landon) Stephen’s, and Chase (Brittany) Dawson. Aswell as she had a loving amount of 15 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews all of whom were the pride and joy of her life. Sheryl was preceded in death by her husband, Warner “Yogi” Schroeder; her parents, William “Bill” Brewer and Norma Jean Brewer; her brothers, Larry Bill Brewer and Doug Brewer; her grandson, Richard Tatum; her nephew, William Bottom; her niece Stacy Brewer; her great-granddaughter, Olivia—all of whom she now reunites with in peace. Sheryl’s legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, the meals she shared, the comfort she gave, and the love she poured into her family and community. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Funeral arrangements will be released later by family, there will be a celebration of life dinner planned and info will be announced in coming weeks.
