Janice M. Gomez

Janice Marie Gomez, 70, of Wichita, KS, passed away peacefully at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS, on March 6, 2024, at 7:32 PM, surrounded by family and friends. Midland Cremation Society, Joplin, MO, carried out her final wishes. She was born on April 11, 1953, to Francis Carl Hampton and Janet Joyce Owen-Byers. Ivan Rogers came into her life when she was 19. She considered him her father for the remainder of her days. Janice, her brother and only sibling, and their parents moved to Kansas City, Kansas, in 1958, where she raised her children during their younger years. In 1992, they moved to Southeast KS, where she lived out the remaining years of her life with her children, grandchildren, and friends. Widowed and divorced, a retiree of Pride Cleaners in KC, KS, and Pitt Plastics in Pittsburg, KS, Janice was a dedicated and hard worker. She spent much of her life working full-time and part-time as a single mother to support her four children. Janice loved spending her free time with friends and family, where she was the happiest. Her hobbies included listening to music, playing computer games, fishing, sewing, watching Game Show Network, reading, and going to flea markets, auctions, and rummage sales. She was a strong, kind, generous, and compassionate woman. She cheered her family on, stood by them, and loved them unconditionally. Her passing has broken the hearts of those who loved her. Janice will be desperately missed by all those she has left behind. Her children Bonnial “Bonny” Johnson of Frontenac, KS, daughter Christina “Crissi” Rose of Frontenac, KS, son Juanito “Neo” Gomez (Jennifer Gomez) of Mt Dora, FL, and daughter Jessica Collins (Ron Collins) of Girard, KS. Her grandchildren whom she loved dearly; Lynsy Mortell, Anthony Powilleit, Ryan Thomas (LeeAnna Flake), Kyle Smith, Amber Gomez, Alyssa Gomez, Brayden Collins, Dereck Johnson, and Makenna “Sissy” Collins. And great-grandchildren Makinzi “Lex,” Ryder, Maranda, Remington, Aubrey, Jaidyn, Emerson “Emery,” Jayne, Gracelynn “G,” and Rylee. Her two nieces, Haley Hampton and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Hampton, her sister-in-law Jackie Hamm (Jim Hamm), her best friend from childhood, Janine Pennington (Ray Pennington), nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and friends. She was pre-deceased by her father Francis, mother Janet, step-father Ivan, brother Fredrick Ross Hampton, sister-in-law Tammy Kay Hampton, Aunt Joan Owens-Byers, grandson Brandon Smith, grandparents, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Celebration of Life will be held at 234 S 180th St, Girard, KS 66743, on April 14, at 3:00 PM.
