Troy Chorum

Troy Chorum, 77, of Carthage passed away peacefully at home October 10th, 2020 with his loving wife of 40 years by his side after a two year battle with cancer. Troy was born October 20th 1942 in Lawrence County to Vollie and Elsie (Fieker) Chorum. Troy spent his early years milking cows for a local dairy, he worked at Haubeins Massey Ferguson Dealership, Big Smith and ran a successful hog farm before being employed by Schreiber’s where he retired after 30 years. Troy was united in marriage to Kay Covert on July 30th, 1980. Troy and family moved back to the family farm in 1989 where he enjoyed raising Angus cattle, working on the farm and living the country life, he was a member of Center Point Christian Church. Troy was preceded in death by his parents Vollie and Elsie Chorum. He is survived by his wife Kay of the home; a daughter Amanda Smith (fiancé Scott McPherson) of Joplin; two sons: Barry (Colleen) Chorum of Carthage; Brian (Alice) Chorum of Carthage; a brother Leroy (Marilyn) Chorum of Carl Junction and Ten grandchildren Travis (Kayla) Chorum of Carthage, Jessie (Eric)Michel of Florida, Levi (Jessica) Chorum of Pierce City, Bailey Chorum of Greenfield, Aesah, Shiloh and Sophia Smith all of Joplin, Caylee, Peighton and Abygail McPherson all of Joplin along with seven great-grandchildren, several nieces & nephews and a host of other friends and family. After cremation burial will be in Fasken Cemetery and a private graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to Center Point Christian Church.
