Kelvin H. Camerer

September 16, 1935 - February 9, 2022

Kelvin Hugh Camerer, of Anderson, Missouri, passed away on February 9, 2022 at the age of 86. Kelvin is survived by his wife, Pavonne Camerer; his children, Karla Miller and Keith Camerer. Nieces and nephews include, Larry Quick, Linda Pugh Ellerbee, Neal Pugh, Phyllis Pugh Ellerbee, Mike Marsh, Laura Marsh and Vernon Pugh. He is predeceased by his first wife and mother of his children, Charlotte Camerer; his sisters, Navah Pugh, Beva Quick, and Elzene “Ellie” Marsh; and his parents, Keith K. Camerer and Allie Mabel Joines Camerer. Kelvin was born on September 16, 1935 in his family’s home, in Jasper, MO. He was named after his mother’s prized possession, her new Kelvinator refrigerator. As a teenager, he showed Ayershire cattle all over the United States by train, and won numerous best of shows with his cattle, including the American Royal in Kansas City. Throughout Kelvin’s teenage years, he pitched for Jasper’s baseball team. He was so good at it that other teams would borrow him for their big games. He was a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division, which was sent to Germany in early 1956 as part of the first UN troops to go in after the American Occupation following WWII. He was the pitcher for the 11th Airborne baseball team, and he traveled all over Germany during the summer of ’56 playing baseball games. He went on to become a police detective in Kansas City and worked in law enforcement in New Mexico before graduating with a 4.0 GPA in geography and history from Eastern New Mexico University. Kelvin was a historian and a teacher in both New Mexico and Missouri, where he stressed citizenship with his students. He was recognized by the American Bar Association for leadership and outstanding citizenship and received written letters from Supreme Court members thanking him for his civic contributions. Kelvin spent many summers leading wilderness horseback trips in the Colorado wilderness and mapping trails by horseback in Wyoming for the Forest Service. Kelvin was a colonel in the reorganized cavalry at Ft. Sill. He was a remarkable horseman and at home in the high wilderness areas with his infamous horse, Turd. Kelvin spent the last third of his life ranching in Anderson, Missouri with his wife, Pavonne, where they raised horses and cattle. There will be a private memorial service for family members later in the year.
