Stephen K. Brant

Stephen K. Brant, aged 40, Chanute, KS, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, after a sudden illness and hospitalization. Stephen was born on November 3, 1979, to Cindy (nee Scott) and Kenneth T. Brant in Chanute, Ks. Stephen attended area schools and graduated from Crest High School in 1998. After graduating, Stephen joined the U.S. Navy. He was a naval aircrewman. Stephen loved to fly and enjoyed his time and the work he did in the Navy. He served his country for 14 years, with tours of duty in the Middle East and Asia. Stephen also was involved in humanitarian aid with the Navy after natural disasters. In September of 2005, his son Wyatt was born and Stephen started his most important job. After leaving the military, Stephen returned home, operated heavy equipment and obtained his FAA A&P License. Stephen worked as a helicopter mechanic for EMS Helicopters. On September 19, 2015, he married Amanda Folk at his family farm in Chanute. Stephen always told everyone he met, how much he loved Amanda. Stephen was an avid gardener, cook, fisherman, and outdoorsman. Above all, he loved his family, friends, pets and being Wyatt's Dad. Stephen is preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, K.W. and Mary C. Brant, and his maternal grandfather, Bob Scott of Iola. Stephen is survived by his wife, Amanda, and his son and best friend, Wyatt of the home, his parents, Cindy Brant of Iola and Kenneth Brant of Chanute, his sister Amy Christensen and her husband Jeff and niece MacKenzie of Cleveland, MO, niece Alexandria Morgan and her husband Griff, Warrensburg, MO; maternal grandmother, Sue (nee Hockett) Cowen, of Chanute, his mother and father in-law Cindy and Joe Folk, rural Iola and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Stephen will be missed by his pets, Dozer, Raymond, D'jango, Ruby and Waylon. Stephen will also be missed by his friends he considered family. When you were friends with Stephen, you could always call on him for help, and you never walked away from his house empty handed or hungry. There will be a Celebration of Life for Stephen on Sunday, November 8th. The Military Ceremony will be at 3:30 pm, food will be served after. Family and friends are encouraged to attend the ceremony or stop by from 3-5 pm at Summit Hill Gardens, 2605 160th Road, Chanute, Kansas.
