Richard S. Tremain

RICHARD SPOTWOOD TREMAIN, loving father, uncle, and brother, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2022 at his home in Pittsburg, Kansas. He was born on January 18, 1955, in St. Louis, Missouri, began school in House Springs, Missouri, and spent most of his life in southeast Kansas. He received his GED and attended college. His parents, Irl G. and Mollie D. Tremain, preceded him in death; he was a primary caregiver in the final years of his mother’s life. As a young man he explored the USA by hitchhiking and taking odd jobs to support himself along the way. Living in Pittsburg he did construction jobs, repaired bicycles, and fixed cars for friends or relatives. He enjoyed his last position as caretaker and guide at the Crawford County Historical Museum due to his peaked interest in Kansas history. His other passions included drawing, driving, road trips, and bicycling. Richard, a warm caring sensitive individual was available to help family and friends when cars broke down or for household emergencies. He was able to help out with childcare when needed and loved spending time with his son, nieces and nephews. Interested in a wide array of subjects he would fill the listener in on “how an engine works” or “what happened during the civil war”. He was kind and helped people who were down on their luck or needed a place to stay. This started as a child when he brought stray cats or dogs home to care for. His survivors include a son, Jason Armstrong and wife Leeann; five brothers and sisters and their spouses: Kerry Tremain and wife Barbara Ramsey, Russ Tremain and wife Sandra Chinn, Diane Tremain and partner Joe Tobin, Roy Tremain and wife Lusi, and Lucy Johnson and husband Don; four nieces: Adriane Fain and husband Casey, Tamra Hockman and husband Scott, Emily Johnson, and Amelia Tremain; six great nephews and nieces: Austin, Andrew, and Mollie Fain, Trinity Peña and husband Jesus, Ryan Hilderbrand, Connor and Anna Merando; and one great-great nephew, Emiliano Peña. The family would also like to acknowledge his companion and care-giver, Regina Logan and her three children, and his friend Dominik Schenk, who helped care for Richard. Rod Estes was his longtime friend.
