Raymond J. Swan

Raymond John Swan passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS. He was born to Thomas and Roseleen Swan (nee Browne) on March 29, 1948 in Chicago, IL. He lived in Chicago until 1985 when he moved to Garden Grove, CA for a few years, then Sparks, NV until he moved to Columbus, KS in 1992 where he worked as a printer at Calibrated Forms until he retired. Even after all the places he lived, he never lost his Chicago accent. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and was obviously happy to see them win the World Series and break the curse. He was an avid NASCAR fan and had an extensive collection of 1:20 scale cars. He watched all the races and liked to call his daughter to tell her what race was coming up even though she didn’t care. It was a good reason for a phone call. He also loved Snoopy of all things and had a Christmas tree that had only Snoopy and NASCAR ornaments. He was a very generous person, even to a fault. This extended after his passing with the donation of his body that went to help 50 people lead more fulfilling lives. He was the type of person who would do anything for a laugh and it usually worked. From childhood up until he took his last breath, he was the entertainer. If you met him, you had a “Ray story”. It would probably take a book to gather all of them. He had a ton of “goodbye phrases” he would use all the time. So, in the words of Ray Swan “see you round like a donut”, “make like a tree and leaf”, “glad you got to see me, pleasure was all yours”, “tell your friends about me”. He is preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Roseleen, his stepmother Constance, brother Patrick, second wife Linda, and her two sons Cory and Jerry Hartmann. He is survived by his wife Sandra and her children Nikki, Adam and Olen, his daughter Amy (Saragusa) and her wife Rosemarie and his stepson Daniel Hartmann. He is also survived by his brother Thomas and husband Eric Beer, stepbrother Gary Graf, stepsister Carolyn Reininger and husband John and halfbrother Steven Huey. He is also survived by multiple grandchildren and greatgrandchildren and extended loved ones and lifelong friends Glenn Miller and Charles Posejpal. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Columbus VFW on Saturday, January 20th.
